Partners in Reading |
| The Lisle Library works
together in partnerships with local schools and community agencies, to
provide individual family, community and workplace literacy services to
Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL)
learners throughout the county. The Lisle Library is the founder of Libraries
English and Reading Network (LEARN), a network of libraries and
literacy providers

| The Library offers the
following: |
- Curriculum support to local public and parochial elementary and
secondary schools, and colleges and universities, along with resource assistance to special education teachers and students with
special reading needs
- Space for individual and small group
tutoring
- An extensive collection of Adult New Reader (ANR)
materials
- A multimedia computer workstation including ESL/ABE
software
- Consultations and assistance to
teachers/tutors and students
- English as a second language classes
for parents of children in the local schools.
- English conversation groups held the
second and fourth Saturdays of each month in the library's meeting
room
- Materials, including books, workbooks, audiotapes,
videotapes, newspapers, and periodicals, which are classified as Adult New Reader (ANR)
and located in a special collection near the Circulation Desk
- Introductory sessions to library services which may be
arranged by appointment with the Literacy Outreach Coordinator

Adult
New Reader (ANR) Card:
Students and tutors of English as a
Second Language (ESL), or adult reading instructors, who live in areas
not served by any library, may apply for an Adult New Reader card.
This card is free and is kept at the Library's Circulation Desk for
checking out literacy materials only.
