Author Crush: Leigh Bardugo

Leigh Bardugo! Doesn't everyone? If you haven't read the Grisha Trilogy yet, you've either been living under a rock, or you don't read fantasy (and if that's the case, I am so, so sorry for you because you are Missing Out). If you are unfamiliar with the series, the story follows Alina Starkov, an orphan from a fictional country called Ravka, as she learns to control her Grisha power of sun-summoning and fights to save her country from the dark force threatening to take over. There is magic. There is fighting. There is a hunky leader called the Darkling. There is a borderline-creepy, but oh-so-delicious love triangle. There are beautiful robes and balls and all manner of fancy. This series will break your heart and put you back together again with great quotes like:

“The problem with wanting is that it makes us weak.”

“This was his soul made flesh, the truth of him laid bare in the blazing sun, shorn of mystery and shadow. This was the truth behind the handsome face and the miraculous powers, the truth that was the dead and empty space between the stars, a wasteland peopled by frightened monsters.”

“Maybe love was superstition, a prayer we said to keep the truth of loneliness at bay.”

“Na razrusha'ya. I am not ruined. E'ya razrushost. I am ruination.”

With writing like that, how can you resist? And the best part? Leigh is writing another series set in Ravka, starting with Six of Crows, coming out this September!

In retrospect, maybe my author crush is more of a book crush this month. Whatever, just check her out! You will not be disappointed.
