Volunteer Art Project: Hokusai in Lisle!
The Lisle Library District (LLD) in partnership with Lisle intergovernmental agencies and local businesses are partnering to create a Hokusai experience in Lisle! This summer, HOKUSAI & UKIYO-E: The Floating World will be on display at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art at the College of DuPage. To coincide with this exhibition, Lisle will be hosting its own community art installation and interactive experience in Downtown Lisle along the Garden Walk at the Main Street Fountain this summer.
To accomplish this project, the LLD seeks volunteers to assist in the creation of public art banners for Downtown Lisle. These banners will become a main feature and part of the Village’s Hokusai event scheduled for Saturday May 24, 2025 at 10AM.
GOAL
To provide colorful outdoor banners to festoon Lisle’s downtown throughout the summer and at the Library’s Gallery 777 during June and July of 2025.
WHO
Members of the public are welcome to participate in the volunteer community art project.
WHAT
Banners are 12” x 24” with greyscale-printed Hokusai imagery on canvas ready for color/paint. Banners are available at the LLD via program participation and for public pick-up.
HOW
- The LLD will host a community art project program on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 7:30PM at the Library in the main meeting rooms. Supplies and light refreshments will be provided by the LLD for this program. Registration is required.
- Unfinished banners will be available for public pick-up during regular Library hours in the Library lobby while supplies last. The return of completed banners and waivers must be before April 18, 2025 to be considered for the community art project. Individuals are responsible for their own art supplies to complete an unfinished banner.
GUIDELINES
All volunteer art project participants are required to sign a waiver allowing the banner to be displayed. Please see all guidelines via the official waiver. Paper copies of the waiver are available at the LLD.
